urge oranji chocolate bar

I received a 60g bar of this chocolate from my February Foodie Pages tasting box.  Urge is based in Vancouver, British Columbia.   According to the Foodie Pages site, Urge's head chocolatier is a die hard foodie and wine lover, so the brand's chocolate flavours are intended to be paired with both food and wine.

This is certainly not your typical Nestle or other supermarket brand chocolate bar.  The 60g bar is portioned into 24 teeny tiny squares, so the chocolate is clearly meant to be savoured.  The Oranji bar teams dark chocolate with a hint of orange flavour and a smattering of goji berries.

I have to admit, the $5 price tag initially induced a bit of sticker shock in me, but the difference in quality really comes out upon tasting.  The chocolate was smooth, rich, and left a pleasant cocoa-y aftertaste in my mouth.  Though I usually avoid orange-flavoured chocolate (that combination just doesn't really do it for me), I didn't mind this one because the orange flavour was mild.  The goji berries were a bit of a throwaway for me, since they didn't really enhance the taste of the chocolate.  Goji berries have been hyped up quite a bit as a super food in recent years and it's been showing up in many products (granola, baked goods, etc.).  I find the new hype around goji berries a little irritating, since they`re really nothing new.  My mother`s been tossing them into soup for years!  Ok, I`ll stop ranting now.

Buy again?  I did not like the oranji bar enough to want to buy it again, but I would be more than willing to try other flavours in Urge`s line up. ~60g bar, C$5 + shipping, available through foodiepages.ca.
